nuptial nook- gypsophila

As a designer, there is a certain aesthetic I embody. Due to that aesthetic, I have never once used gypsophila (commonly known as baby's breath) in any of my designs- it is just not my cup of tea.

However, I'd be willing to give in and make an exception for the following designs, which, believe it or not, I actually think are quite lovely.

Gypsophila rules of thumb:

  • vast quanities
  • simple arrangements
  • on its own
Centerpieces: although this particular photo isn't geared toward wedding design per se, it showcases the fact that used on it's own and in vast quantities , gypsophila has potential to provide a sort of understated charm. {source: Martha Stewart}Bouquet: Simply, softly, delicately lovely. Of today's featured concepts, this is certainly my personal favorite. {source: Real Simple}
Decor: With blooms this small, it would take rather large quantities to amount any sort of worthwhile statement, but the result is definitely worth it. {source: The Brides Cafe}
{I thought about including a few photos of baby's breath used in the WRONG way in designs (there would be so many to choose from!), but I erred on the side of caution and decided to spare you the intense visual distress} :)

These designs go to show that used in the right way & with the right designer, even the most cliche bloom can become classy and beautiful.

nuptial nook- the wishing tree

I am enamored with this guest book idea! As I am such a fan of custom, original, & unique wedding concepts that manage to be "different" while still maintaining taste and class, this particular design speaks to me. The arrangement would make a stunning statement as guests enter the reception, and it's such a fun idea for the guests to be able to hang their well-wishes like ornaments on the branches of what becomes a wishing tree for the bride & groom. I look forward to having a bride who commissions me to design this for her!
(I found this photo online a year or so ago, and unfortunately can't remember where I found it... otherwise I would give you a link. I do, however, think I remember that it was from a feature on Tori Spelling's wedding. Go figure.)
Natalia & David's wedding is this weekend and I'm pretty excited about it. The color concept is rich fall hues- mustard yellow, rust, burgundy, chocolate brown, and let's not forget to throw in some purple- it will be beautiful! Watch for a post on their wedding soon.

Until then...

{nuptial nook- homespun vintage}

I have been lacking in the Nuptial Nook department lately! For our newer readers, "Nuptial Nook" is a series we do here at Blossom Sweet which features ideas and inspiration dealing with all things wedding. We've featured color palettes, local vendors, dresses, flowers, cakes, original guest book ideas, etc.

For this week's nook, the concept is "homespun vintage". The inspiration is taken from a post I came across @
Southern Weddings, which is a source we've featured before. I always find fantastic inspiration at the SW blog! You can see the original post here, where you'll also be able to find out specifics on vendors used and the like.

Sometimes certain designs just catch my fancy, and this was absolutely one of those designs! I find the palette charming and the atmosphere stunning. They captured "homespun vintage" to a T.

{nuptial nook- bridal shower cake}

Let's do a little math:

12 cupcakes
+ one 8" round cake
...put them together and what have you got?...

= one super cute bridal shower cake!

I made this cake for my mom this Mother's Day. Her favorite color is blue. I think it would work perfectly for a bridal shower because it's very girly and also goes well with a wedding theme. Plus... it is SO easy- it only takes one cake mix!

HERE'S THE HOW TO:
1. Whip up 1 cake mix of your choice.
2. Use half the batter for 12 cupcakes, and the other half for an 8" round.
3. Bake according to directions and then cool completely in refrigerator.
4. Frost with icing of your choice
...what are the brides wedding colors? frosting to match? just a thought...
5. Keep frosted cake and cupcakes separated and refrigerated until just before guests arrive.
6. Tier cupcakes on top of 8" round as follows:
.one.
....four....

.......seven.......

6. Decorate with accessories of your choice
(I used yellow beads and artificial flowers. SO easy!)
7. Voila! Enjoy your super cute, super yummy cake!

{nuptial nook- something old}

First off, congratulations to
Kaylee,
(who incidentally is one of my past brides!)
you're the winner of the Mother's Day giveaway!

With Mother's Day coming up this week, I've been very reflective on the women who have shaped my life (post on said wonder women coming soon). As I've been reflecting, I thought it would be a good idea to bring the past into the present with this week's nook.

Oftentimes, I think elements of the fashions of the past mix beautifully with modern style. How fantastic would it be to incorporate your mother's/grandmother's:

shoes,
veil,
clutch,
brooch,
or locket with photos from their weddings into yours?

love love LOVE love love.

I hope you enjoyed these ideas! I'd love to hear additional "something old" ideas, let me know your thoughts!

{nuptial nook- abella bridal}

For this week's nook, I decided to feature a local bridal gown vendor, Abella Bridal. Visit their site here. I love their dresses because they are not cookie cutter. Their gowns manage to be unique and different while still maintaining a high level of beauty and class.
Anyway, here are a few of my favorite dresses.
Enjoy!

let's start with my very favorite:

{nuptial nook- make your mark}

I thought this idea from In Style Weddings was a cute and unique concept for marking the bride and groom seats. Plus, I like the pop of color because it makes me excited for Spring... apparently UT thinks it's still Winter even though it's almost April...go away freezing, white, fluffy snowflakes that keep falling from the sky! I have a brilliant idea, don't come back til next year. The end.

{nuptial nook- the bold and the beautiful}

So ya'll know I served my mission in the South, right? Well, perhaps that may be why I love the "Southern Weddings" blog so much. I visit it quite often to check out their inspiration boards, and just for fun too!
Take this featured inspiration board for example. I love this color combo- aqua and red. It takes a bold, brave, and stylishly confident bride to pull it off, but when it's done right, it makes a memorable, strong, and beautiful statement. Don't you love it? Thanks Southern Weddings, I'm sure you'll be a repeat feature of our 'nook'.

{nuptial nook- lucky charm}

Happy Saint Patrick's Day! In honor of the holiday, this week's nuptial nook features a darling spring bouquet of sweet peas and hand-crafted four leaf clovers which was featured on Martha Stewart Weddings. According to Martha, four leaf clovers stand for "hope, faith, love, and luck"-very appropriate for a wedding, right? I want a Saint Patrick's Day bride next year because I want to make this!
Hope you all have a fantastic day...don't get pinched!

{nuptial nook- pretty pomanders}

Well, this week's nuptial nook is going to double as the announcement for the winner of our most recent giveaway.
And the winner is....
Janet!

Congrats, pretty lady! Watch for your pomander prize in the coming week.
Thanks to all who entered!

And now on to the 'nuptial nook' part of the post. I decided to do a spotlight on pretty pomanders in order to show a few potential wedding uses:

For the first two photos, check out this gorgeous Salt Lake City bride whose wedding was featured here. LOVE her unique choice for a pomander bouquet. Just my style.

This is my kind of bride- chic to the core!
Love this idea- use pomanders to line an aisle or mark the head table. So many uses. See the original post here.
Don't feel limited to using only ribbon to adorn your pomander- how adorable are these pearls on the bridesmaid bouquet? Love! See the original post here.

{nuptial nook-sign in books}

Details are what make a wedding memorable, beautiful, and uniquely yours. Why have a 'cookie cutter' wedding when you can infuse your own style into every facet? I'm all about originality!

And how cute and original are these sign in books featured at Martha Stewart Weddings?

First, the index card book. Each card is made from fancy-schmancy vintage paper and each card is different. Guests each fill out a card, write the happy couple a note, and then file it under the letter which corresponds with their last name. Adorable, right?

Second is the envelope sign-in book. So fun! Start by finding various-sized miniature envelopes that match your color palette, attach them to the book with double stick scrapbooking tape, and voila! Your book is ready. Have cute slips of paper available for guests to pen their well-wishes. Love!

{nuptial nook-green and pink}

We're implementing another series of blog-posts here at Blossom Sweet! Welcome to the 'Nuptial Nook'. Here you'll find weekly ideas and inspiration for all things matrimonial. It should be exciting. :) Enjoy!

'InStyle Weddings' is a great and easily accessible source of inspiration for brides to be. The following three cakes have all been featured in the magazine and are variations on the general color scheme of green and pink- a color scheme which seems to be making a comeback with my brides this year.

I like all of them, but this first photo is my personal favorite of the bunch because I love the atypical hues.
