pioneers, oh pioneers: an inspiration

Hope you all had a great Pioneer Day Weekend (for those of our readers outside of Utah, July 24th is a big state holiday called "Pioneer Day")!

We've created a lovely little number by way of inspiration boards in honor of the holiday. We love this style! Click on the image to enlarge. Enjoy!

"visions of sugar plums" by blossom sweet

Who says Christmas weddings have to be formulaic? Not us! We are excited to share with you our latest inspiration board, "Visions of Sugar Plums," which is far from the bride's typical take on the holiday. We think you'll love it! But just how do we come up with our boards, anyway? It depends on the day, but let's walk you through this particular board.

It all started with one photograph (found at Style Me Pretty), which in its understated, simplistic elegance really spoke to us:

Then, based upon our initial inspirational photo, we came up with the following pallette - a non-traditional spin on the holiday season:

And then came the fun part, putting the board itself together. We found lots of photographs on various sites on the web which meshed well within our pallette, our style, and the Christmas season. And voila! It all came together perfectly! So, without further ado, here is our latest board (which we totally adore!):

they sang as they walked and walked: a pioneer day inspiration board

The 24th of July is a special day in Utah, Pioneer Day, which is a holiday celebrating the Pioneers who settled here. My ancestors had a lot to do with settling this area, and I'd like to honor them with this post tonight, specifically Archibald Gardner from my mom's side of the family, and James Pace from my dad's side. Both men are my great-great-grandfathers.

You may have heard of Archibald, which is to say, you may have heard of Gardner Village. Am I right? If you haven't heard of the adorable place, find out more here. Named for my g.g. grandpapi.

And then there's James Pace, who Payson, UT is named after (sorry, no photo of James).

I love coming from a pioneer heritage and history on both sides of my family, and in honor of Pioneer Day here in Utah, I've decided to create a gorgeous, pioneer-inspired board. Enjoy!

Happy Pioneer Day!

When I think of summer, one of the colors that comes to my mind is peach. I LOVE everything peach; you may have noticed that it has been one of the focal colors of the blog for quite some time now. A couple of my favorite peach/summer correlations:

1. I remember that during one of the summers I spent in Georgia being able to smell the fragrance of fresh peaches carried on the breeze. Divine, I say, simply divine.

2. Last year I threw my first annual "cobbler night," a big party at my place with lots of fresh peach dutch-oven cobbler & summer fun. Can't wait 'til this year's in a month or so!

In honor of my favorite summer fruit & color, I've created an inspiration board, "PEACHY KEEN." Hope you enjoy it!

color of love

I love Valentine's Day. I love it because I can mix colors that wouldn't really work any other time of the year. For example, I hosted a V-day party last night, and I wore the brightest of fuchsia shoes & earrings paired with a cherry red flapper-style headband. And, only because it was a Valentine's party, it was super cute!

In honor of this day of love, I created an inspiration board that is [if I may say so myself] both lovely and elegantly seasonal. I went with a color scheme of plum, rose, and burgundy with accents of sparkle, ambiance, & light. It's a combination I could certainly see myself choosing for my wedding [someday] - I love these romantic colors.

Hope it inspires you! And I hope you have all had the best Valentine's weekend in the history of the world. ;)
