katie + nick

Katie and Nick are getting married this evening up at Sundance.  We are excited about how their designs turned out and can't wait to see it all come together in a few hours.  The lovebirds have graciously agreed to be spotlighted.  Enjoy!

How did you meet?
We met at a singles ward. I was attending with a friend, and Nick had been going there for a while. Nick says that he noticed me right away, but had always thought that I had a boyfriend because I didn't talk to too many people at first. So it took a while for him to get the courage to talk to me. He invited me to join him and his friends on a hike to the top of Mt. Timpanogos and we really hit it off. I don't think there has been a day we haven't talked to each other since!
What is the most unique thing about your relationship?
The most unique thing about us has to be that we have the uncanny ability to be thinking the same thing at the same exact moment. We understand each other so well that it seems like we can truly read each other's minds!

Tell us about your first date.
On our first date Nick took me Noodles & Co. He had trouble thinking of a place that he thought I would like and that I would be able to eat (I was a vegetarian at the time). Good choice, it was delicious -- then we went to a comedy club. He was banking on us having the same type of humor, he chose right because we were both crying it was so funny. The best part of the whole evening though was after the comedy club, we didn't know quite what to do -- it was only 10:30 and the night was so young!  So we went back to my house and unfortunately my roommates were having a party. We didn't want our night to end,  so we ended up laying on the grass together and just talked.  Next thing we knew it was almost 3 in the morning.  The time had just flown by!  We have had that special connection ever since.

Tell us a bit about your event concept.
For our wedding we were going for an outdoor vintage look with a modern twist. Our wedding colors are yellow, pink, and gray -- all soft and natural. Our ceremony is at a cabin and we want to accent the natural beauty that is already there by using flowers that are found naturally in the area, by having vases with pictures of us with a candle light shining through, and cafe lights lighting a beautiful deck area where we will have an intimate dinner afterwards. We are so excited to share this moment with our closest and dearest friends. We can't wait to see it all come together and finally become Mr. and Mrs.!

What are your favorite qualities about each other?
From Nick: What I love about Katie is that she is so much like me but so different at the same time. I love how she cares about everything and everyone. She makes me laugh without having to do anything, and one of her smiles makes my entire day worthwhile. She has an enthusiasm for life that is unmatched and so pure, and a desire to achieve and become better that rubs off on me and makes me a better man without her having any idea that it happens.

From Katie: Nick has the ability to make any situation something positive, no matter what it may be. He seems to know exactly what to say when someone is in need of help and is always willing to do everything he possibly can. He is the most selfless person I know. Nick is incredibly genuine and passionate which is something that I admire greatly. He always brightens up my day just by being his fun, goofy self! He is full of surprises, sensitive, and supportive. I have truly found my prince charming. He is everything I hoped for and more.

How did he propose?
Since we both share an intense love for the outdoors, we had been wanting to go geocaching for the longest time. After the school semester was over we had a day planned to go and find some geocaches up Little Cottonwood Canyon. So Nick took the lead and took us to the GPS waypoints to find the first cache. It was a lot harder than we both had expected but after awhile we found it and got some really cool items. We then went to a few more caches and found a few and some we didn't. It was getting late but Nick said that there was two more to go to that were near each other. We started on a trail but it soon we were off in what felt like a jungle. As we were struggling to make it through the brush and because we had been doing this for several hours i was starting to get irritated. We found the spot for the first of the two caches and it was in a place that would be impossible to find anything in it! Nick told me to start looking and excused himself to go to the "bathroom." While he was gone he planted a geocache that he had made personally for me. He came back and said 'let's just go look for the other one and then go home."  As we were walking back I noticed this cache that he had planted in plain sight. I opened it and found a personal message from him and while I was reading it he got down on one knee. I was so happy I couldn't even speak. At that moment I became the happiest girl alive.

How did you meet?
We met at BYU a couple of years ago, where we were in the same ward.

What is one unique thing about your relationship?
Some people think it’s crazy, but almost our entire dating relationship was long distance.  We’d known each other for a year beforehand, luckily, but we didn’t start really talking or dating until Andrew had graduated and moved to New Hampshire to work.

When did you realize you were in love?
Jessica:  He had been out for Christmas break and we’d spent a few days in L.A. and with our families in Utah.  The night before he left to go back to New Hampshire, he was driving me back to my apartment and we were both really quiet.  I remember feeling suddenly overwhelmed with how much I cared about him, and I realized, even though I think I’d always kind of known it, that I loved him and that I wanted to be with him.  I didn’t say anything while we were driving, but it was a very real, powerful experience.

Andrew: I realized I loved her way before then.

What are your favorite qualities about each other?
Jessica:  I love that Andrew is so confident and that his faith is so simple.  He knows that things will always come together, and so he goes for anything he wants in life.  I know he could accomplish anything he sets his heart to, and that he’s going to do some great things.  I’m so excited to be with him when he does!  And it doesn’t hurt that he’s so funny, sweet and darn cute.
Andrew:  I love that Jessica is so positive and happy all the time. She loves people and she loves life and it shows. She is humble, hardworking, intelligent, and I love the fact that she is so musical. I also love that she is so family-oriented and wants to be a mother and raise seven crazy kids with me!

How did he propose?
I  picked him up from the airport and we were planning on going to my parents’ house so he could talk to my dad.  On the way, his sister who lives in Draper called to ask if we could just stop by and “visit” for a minute on the way.  We agreed, and when we got there Andrew said they were all on the back balcony and that we could just meet them back there.  When we opened the door, there was a beautiful dinner set up, with candles everywhere and music playing.  Before I could put together what was happening, he was on one knee.  He asked me to marry him, I said yes, and we sat down to a beautiful dinner together.

a sentimental photo of the month

Happy July!  It's a new month and therefore time for a new "photo of the month" post, and I am so excited about this month's chosen photograph.  In less than two weeks I am going to be a bridesmaid in a darling friend's wedding.  I am over-the-moon excited for her and the hubs-to-be.

This aforementioned lady just so happened to be our model for a 2008 ad campaign.  So, it seems fitting that as she will no longer be wearing a borrowed bridal gown as a beautiful model - rather this time in her own dress as a blushing bride - that we would feature her gorgeous face this time around.

Congrats, dear.  Can't wait to be your bridesmaid.  Every happiness to you both!
